VCI Packing
Volatile corrosion inhibitor film, paper or emitters form a protective layer on metal surfaces inside the pack.
Packaging that protects machinery and equipment against humidity, salt air, condensation and rough handling on long ocean voyages.
Sea-worthy export packaging
Quick answerSea-worthy packaging protects cargo from moisture, salt air and handling during ocean freight. For machinery, Pronk India combines VCI film or vacuum-sealed barrier foil with desiccant, a load-rated skid, an ISPM-15 crate and proper container lashing, sized to the voyage length and destination climate.
The biggest risk to machinery at sea is often not impact but corrosion. Temperature swings inside a container cause condensation ("container rain") that can rust bright surfaces and damage electronics within days. Our sea-worthy packing is designed to stop that.
Protection layers
Volatile corrosion inhibitor film, paper or emitters form a protective layer on metal surfaces inside the pack.
Aluminium-laminate foil is heat-sealed around the machine and vacuumed, with desiccant to absorb residual moisture.
Desiccant bags sized to the sealed volume and voyage, with humidity indicator cards to verify on arrival.
LDPE shrink film for oversized cargo, vehicles and break-bulk units exposed to weather.
ISPM-15 wooden crate or steel skid that holds the machine through crane lifts and vessel motion.
Cargo secured in the container or on the flat rack so it cannot shift or puncture its barrier.
Selecting protection
| Method | Protection level | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| VCI film / paper | Good corrosion protection for moderate voyages | Machined parts, spares, assemblies in closed crates |
| Vacuum barrier foil + desiccant | Highest moisture protection; near-hermetic seal | Machines with electronics, long voyages, tropical routes, storage at site |
| Shrink wrap (LDPE) | Weather and dust protection; limited vapour barrier | Oversized cargo, vehicles, break-bulk and flat-rack shipments |
| Combination | VCI inside barrier foil inside a crate | High-value machinery on long or multi-modal routes |
Desiccant quantities are calculated from the sealed volume, barrier type and expected transit plus storage time. For a complete packing sequence see how to pack industrial machinery for export.
FAQ
Sea-worthy packaging is export packing designed to withstand ocean freight: humidity and condensation, salt air, long transit and storage times, crane and forklift handling, stacking and vessel motion. It normally combines corrosion protection, a structural crate or skid, and proper lashing.
By sealing the machine in VCI film or vacuum barrier foil with an adequate quantity of desiccant, coating bright surfaces, avoiding wet timber, and making sure the barrier is not punctured during crating and lashing.
Shrink wrap protects against weather and dust but is not a full vapour barrier. For machinery with sensitive surfaces or electronics, Pronk India recommends barrier foil or VCI inside the shrink wrap or crate.
Correctly sealed barrier foil with adequate desiccant is commonly specified for many months of transit and storage. The protection period depends on the foil grade, desiccant quantity and storage conditions, which we size for each shipment.
Yes. Pronk India operates across major Indian ports and industrial hubs and can pack, wrap and lash cargo at ports, CFS/ICDs and customer sites.
