Wooden Crate Packaging

Industrial wooden packaging solutions: crates, boxes, skids and pallets engineered for machinery, equipment and export cargo.

Industrial wooden packaging

Wooden Crates Built Around
Your Cargo, Not Off a Shelf.

Quick answerPronk India builds wooden crate packaging for machinery and industrial equipment: ISPM-15 heat-treated pinewood crates, plywood boxes, open frame crates, wooden skids and pallets, and nail-less boxes, each designed to the cargo's weight, dimensions and transport route.

Wood is still the most versatile material for heavy and irregular industrial cargo. Our wooden packaging solutions range from compact plywood boxes for spares to large crates for machines and panels, built at our packaging units or on site at your plant.

Types of Industrial Wooden Packaging We Make

Pinewood Crates (ISPM-15)

Closed sheathed crates in heat-treated pine for machinery and equipment shipped by sea.

Plywood Boxes

Lighter, clean boxes for spares, electronics and engineering goods. Plywood is exempt from ISPM-15.

Open Frame Crates

Framed crates for robust cargo that needs handling and stacking protection without full enclosure.

Wooden Skids and Pallets

Load-rated bases with runners for forklift and sling handling of heavy equipment.

Nail-less Boxes

Clip-assembled boxes that open in minutes without tools, ideal for repeat and returnable flows.

Hybrid Wood + Steel

Steel skids or frames with timber or plywood enclosures for very heavy machinery.

How We Design a Wooden Crate for Machinery

A crate for machinery is a structure, not just a box. Our crate designs consider:

  • Base design: skid section, runner spacing and cross-members sized to the weight and footprint of the machine.
  • Load paths: blocking and bracing that carry the machine's inertia into the base during braking, rolling and crane lifts.
  • Panels and roof: sheathing thickness and roof joists chosen for stacking load and weather exposure.
  • Moisture barrier: VCI or barrier-foil liners for sea freight, and drainage and ventilation where required.
  • Compliance: heat-treated, ISPM-15 marked timber for solid wood, plus case marks and handling symbols.
  • Handling: forklift entries, sling marks and centre-of-gravity markings for safe handling at every port.

Choosing a material

Pinewood vs Plywood vs Tri-Wall Corrugated

MaterialStrengthsWatch-outs
Pinewood (solid timber)High strength for heavy loads, easy to customise and repairMust be heat-treated and stamped to ISPM-15; heavier
PlywoodClean finish, consistent strength, exempt from ISPM-15Higher material cost for very large crates
Tri-Wall heavy duty corrugatedMuch lighter than wood, recyclable, ISPM-15 exemptNeeds a pallet or skid for very heavy loads; keep dry
Hybrid (wood + steel or corrugated)Combines strength where needed with low weight elsewhereRequires engineering design for each cargo

For lighter engineering and automotive parts, compare our Tri-Wall corrugated packaging. For machines above several tonnes, see steel skids and frames.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

What is wooden crate packaging for machinery?

It is a custom-built timber or plywood structure, normally a load-rated skid with walls and a roof, into which a machine is bolted and braced so that it can be lifted, transported and stacked safely during domestic or export shipment.

What is the difference between a crate and a box?

In industrial packaging, a crate usually has a structural frame and skid carrying the load, while a box is a sheathed enclosure for lighter goods. Pronk India builds both, as well as open framed crates and skids.

Are your wooden crates ISPM-15 compliant?

Solid wood used in Pronk India's export crates is heat-treated and ISPM-15 marked as required by the destination country. Plywood and other processed wood products are exempt from ISPM-15.

Can you make nail-less wooden boxes?

Yes. Pronk India makes nail-less boxes assembled with metal clips. They are quick to open and reassemble and suit returnable or repeat shipments.

What sizes of crates can you build?

From small boxes for spare parts up to large crates for machines and project cargo. Crates that exceed container dimensions can be built on site and shipped break-bulk or on flat racks.
